Order a marriage certificate

A marriage certificate is a legal document. It can be used as evidence of a relationship, to change one or both people's names after marriage, and as proof of identification. You'll need valid identity documents, a debit or credit card and around 10 minutes to complete the application. All fields are mandatory unless marked as (Optional).

The type of certificate or search requested and the reason it is required (such as probate or estate administration, conveyancing or immigration, divorce proceedings).
The link between the client represented and the person whose name appears on the certificate.

to determine your eligibility to obtain a certificate and to prevent fraud.

Information may be used for statistical purposes and by law enforcement agencies, and other uses by law.

False representation

If you knowingly provide false information in your application, you may be guilty of an offence under Section 57 of the Births, Deaths and Marriages Registration Act 1995.

A person who makes a representation in an application, notice or document under this Act or in response to a notice under Section 44 of this Act (Registrar's powers of inquiry), knowing the representation to be false or misleading in a material particular, is guilty of an offence.
